Darren has always been community-focused. He was successfully elected as a municipal councilor in 2000 for two consecutive terms after which, he retired from politics. He has been a board member of the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation since 2007; being the Board Chair for 7 of those years. Darren has also been a Freemason since 2009. He has been Master of two different lodges for a total of three years and most recently was elected to the highly regarded position of District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Canada, in the Province of Ontario, for North Huron District.
As an avid outdoorsman, Darren often lends his time volunteering with the Friends of Hullett at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area. He believes that preservation and conservation are important fabrics of a healthy community.
Darren most recently started fostering a black lab puppy, Suki, for the Lions Foundation of Canada. The hope is that Suki will be successfully trained as a Dog Guide and will be able to help a family much in need.
